My name is Roy Taylor and I have been married to Margaret for 60 years. We have lived in the parish and worshipped at St Giles’ since 1971. We have two sons and four grandchildren.
I have acted as Sacristan since 1981 and my main task is to ensure that the Clergy and Readers have an adequate supply of candles, linen, wine, wafers and any seasonal requirements, e.g. palm crosses, for the various services.
I make ready the vestments required by the Clergy, according to the liturgical year. I also make sure that the inside of church is prepared for Worship, ensuring that the seasonal coloured altar frontals are in place.
During services, I support the Clergy and members of the congregations in a variety of ways.
I have been an altar server since I was trained at the age of 13 and this aspect of my church life has been the central part of my faith wherever I have lived, in various parts of the world.
